The love gift served to strengthen the relationship during courtship, letting the entire village community know that it was serious. Other types of carved objects could also be a love gift: a washing bat, a mirror stand, a cloth stretcher called “porong”, a bobbin case, a hoes cleaner, a small chest, etc.

The so called “porong” was an important tool in weaving: it was attached to the edge of the already woven cloth, so that the edges were stretched across the width of the loom during the process. It could be made of both soft and hard wood and was decorated with carvings and engravings, which were made either by the courting man or by a competent person commissioned by him. It consisted of two pieces of wood that could be pushed together, the length could be adjusted according to the width of the material, and it could be fixed with a wooden nail.

The subject of August is a "porong” (cloth stretcher) from Ciucani (Sânmartin region). It became the property of the Szekler Museum of Ciuc in 1969 and dates to the late 19th century. The geometric decoration can be observed on the entire surface of the object, in a linear arrangement. It is decorated with wolf teeth motifs, rosettes, the tree of life, as well as phytomorphic and floral motifs. The object could be opened in two directions and adjusted according to the width of the canvas. The small wooden nail in the middle was used to precisely adjust the size. Two small nails, resembling cat claws, were hammered into each end of the tensioner, with which the device was hung on the canvas.
