The series of representative Imre Nagy exhibitions, updated every season, has been expanded this year with a thematic selection, which may provide an opportunity to view the rich oeuvre of the Master from Jigodin from a unique perspective.
The theme of this exhibition is the representation of animals in the art of Imre Nagy. The Imre Nagy collection of the Szekler Museum of Ciuc, with more than 6000 works, offers a vast and varied material in this theme alone, including works that have rarely or never been seen by the public. You can take a peek into the Master's animal portfolios, or hear him talk about why he was so interested in animals, what anecdotes and interesting life situations resulted from his obsession with drawing them, how he raised a bear around the house just to draw it, or how he kept a cow until he was done studying it.
We encounter animals in almost all of Imre Nagy's techniques, giving us insight not only into his brilliant solutions but also into important issues of content, the different levels of maturation of the subject, as he moves from the intention to capture the movement of animals to the great symbols, revealing one or two exotic detours. Through the different techniques, the evolution and development of the theme, its incorporation into more complex content, can be clearly seen, thus offering new perspectives for approaching the oeuvre.
