Sabretach-plates – Treasures of the Conquering Hun

In 2022, the Hungarian National Museum opened to the public the sabretache-plates of the Hungarian elite. Thanks to the archaeological excavations of recent years, several treasures from the conquest period have been unearthed, so the Hungarian National Museum has undertaken the ambitious task of presenting all the sabretache-plates of the conquering leaders in an exhibition.

In December 2023, the Szekler Museum of Ciuc will bring the most valuable artifacts of our ancestors to Miercurea Ciuc, where nearly 40 sabretache-plates and ornaments will be on display. The exhibition offers a glimpse into the times of the conquest, and the representational needs and material potential of the conquering elite, the chiefs, can be seen thanks to this unique collection of objects.

The exhibition will be opened by Dr. Virágos Gábor, Deputy Director General of Archaeology of the Hungarian National Museum.

The exhibition will be open until 7 April 2024 at the Szekler Museum of Ciuc.
