Famous Hungarian travellers

An exhibition of famous Hungarian travellers will be on display at the Kossuth street Gallery from 31 March to 19 April.

Our Hungarian travellers and explorers were people of different religions, professions and qualifications, but they were bound together by the same passion and desire to discover.

They left their homeland with varied objectives. Through their journeys, they contributed to the advancement of universal and Hungarian scientific knowledge in the fields of natural history, geography, botany, zoology, ethnography and linguistics.

When their situation demanded it, they took on the difficulties of integrating into different societies, learning foreign customs and languages, while never ceasing to be Hungarian. These travellers and explorers set an example not only of perseverance and sacrifice, but also of respect and acceptance for other peoples.

In a different time and spirit, but today we should have a similar openness towards each other, towards the different cultures and peoples we come into contact with in our work, in our daily lives or in our travels.
