One of the most fascinating aspects of historical research is the study of people's everyday lives, understanding the everyday life of different eras. It is difficult for people in the 21st century to imagine what life was like 100 years ago, but it is more difficult and requires more knowledge, and perhaps creativity, to imagine society 400 years ago.
If we were to simplify and use platitudes at the same time, we could say that history repeats itself, so similar stories were happening back then. There were leading officials, but we can also distinguish other layers of society who were at a different level materially.
Various changes to laws were also met with resistance in society at the time, sometimes with physical manifestations. The leading figures often abused their power, but they were also the main ecclesiastical supporters of the period, and their need for representation meant that museums preserved treasures that reflected the fashions of the time.
The lecture is an attempt to present the society of the 16-17 century in Ciuc and to answer the question of how our ancestors lived.
On 19 April, from 18:00, in the protocol room of the Mikó Castle, historian Aranka Karda-Markaly will give the fourth lecture in the series, In Hungarian, entitled Everyday life and material culture in 16th-17th century Ciuc Seat.
