Running Festival Miercurea Ciuc

The routes for each distance have been chosen to give runners a taste of the best of the city and its immediate surroundings. Starting from the town centre, they will run past the imposing Márton Áron College High School, built in the early 1900s, and then head towards Păuleni and Delnița, where they can see the famous Piatra Singuratică in the distance, Then, passing through Șoimeni, you can admire the mountain of Șumuleu, before returning to the town and passing the church of the Virgin Mary on Șumuleu-Ciuc, the site of the largest Catholic pilgrimage in the Carpathian Basin. Pope Francis visited the site in 2019, and the golden rose he donated is now displayed next to the statue. Continuing on, the runners will pass by the Renaissance-style Mikó Castle, built in the 1600s, and then the famous cradle of hockey in Ciuc, the Lajos Vákár artificial ice rink.  The route of the cross-country race will also be in Șumuleu-Ciuc, on the hill next to the altar, famous for the Pentecostal feast. There will also be a pasta party and the runners will be able to listen to music from local bands.

Before and after the race, visitors can visit the permanent exhibitions of the Szekler Museum of Ciuc, go for a swim in Csíki Csobbanó swimming pool, sample the varied specialities of local restaurants and even go for a pre-race warm-up jog around the town with the help of local runners. The book fair in Miercurea Ciuc, where you can buy books by Transylvanian authors, among others, will take place at the same time as the running festival.
