The parish church from Misentea (2005)
Colleague: Lóránt Darvas

The archaeological researches were carried out in the autumn of 2005 on the occasion of the renovation of the church. During the excavation we managed to open the churchyard, few graves of the medieval cemetery, and we succeeded in documenting the 19th century lengthening of the Northern nave wall.

In the loft of the portico we discovered and partially opened an unknown Romanesque arch window (and the portions of a later Gothic window), which is the first Romanesque memento of the Ciuc – basin.

According to our suppositions before the Gothic period the sacristy of the church was lying west from today’s sacristy. The Western part of the tabernacle hides wall remains from the age of the Árpáds, but for confirmation further research would be necessary.

In a parallel direction with our excavation the restorer Lóránd Kiss did some research on the Northern nave wall. He opened a small part of a fresco, depicting the pursuit scene of the Saint László legend. This is the second known, but earliest memento (14th century) of the Saint László legend in the region of Ciuc.
