Prints from the 16th – 18th century
Our collection of the 16th century prints contains theological, religious and philosophical works: bibles, exegesis, breviaries, edicts, etc. You can find here both writings for and against Protestantism.  There are few books about the history and geography of the antiquity and of the medieval ages, works from classical authors and from humanists of that time, literature. Content wise the prints of the 17th – 18th centuries that are in our possession are the same as those from the 16th century. The 18th century collection of the gymnasium is richer in historical, geographical works, and we can also find among these prints textbooks and dictionaries.

The museum owns 112 prints from the 15th – 17th centuries. Those who are interested can find here the sermons of Pelbárt Temesvári and of Osvát Laskai.; we have 8 prints of Heltai from Cluj Napoca (Kolozsvár), the statute –book of Werbőczi in Latin and Hungarian, the Chronic of István Benczédi – Székely from 1559, etc. The Hunagrian Baroque prints of the 17th century are represented by the works of Péter Pázmány, György Káldi, András Illyés, István Illyés, István Landovics, etc.

The books printed in the printing house of the Franciscans from Şumuleu Ciuc deserve attention also from historico – cultural point of view: they published mainly ecclesiastical works, but they printed short historical, legal, philosophical works and Latin and Hungarian textbooks as well.
